On March 14th, 2019 at Université Paris-Descartes, the French Minister for National Education and Youth Jean-Michel Blanquer and the CEO of the CNRS Antoine Petit signed a letter of intent regarding the launching of Mathematics Year in 2019/2020.

The Mathematics Year shall take the form of training days organised in the CNRS maths labs for secondary school teachers. As part of continuous disciplinary training process, mathematics should be presented as a living science. These days will be organised with the partners of the maths lab according to the local context. An objective is to increase the involvement of mathematicians alongside these partners and secondary school teachers. Their involvement will allow, not only to take into account the most recent research subjects to improve the effictiveness of mathematics teaching, but also to pave the way for supporting school boys and girls in projects at the frontiers of sciences and contemporary issues.

On the occasion, Fabienne Comte presented the CNRS&Université Paris-Descartes maths lab MAP5, Julie Delon and Pierre Latouche, members of the MAP5, and Eric Roditi (EDA, université Paris-Descartes) gave talks and Amandine Aftalion (CAMS, CNRS & EHESS) announced the recipients of VideoMath competition that was organised by the CNRS tool for dissemination towards the younger ones AuDiMath together with the Ministry for National Education and Youth.
